International Students Experience Wenzhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Hair Embroidery

On the afternoon of November 23rd, international students of our university made a visit to Wenzhou Hair Embroidery Institute, and were astonished by Wenzhou intangible culture heritage—Hair Embroidery. This was their first time to see so many vivid and beautiful artworks made of hairs.

Meng Yongguo, Master of Chinese Embroidery Art and Director of Wenzhou Hair Embroidery Institute, introduced the history, types and techniques of hair embroidery to our students, helping them better understand hair embroidery.

After appreciating hair embroidery artworks, international students took up needles to make one themselves. With the guidance from Meng, each student finished a work of Dragon Boat.

By experiencing, they knew how much efforts it took to complete a grand hair embroidery artwork. However, they were happy to learn the knowledge of hair embroidery and got the basic skill of it. At the same time, they were surprised at Chinese people’s wisdom and talents.

Hair embroidery experience is part of the Course of Chinese National Condition and Culture.
