Our international students try intangible cultural heritage “Colored Stone Inlay Technique”

Colored stone inlay technique is a national intangible cultural heritage and a bright pearl in Wenzhou culture. In order to enrich the study life of our international students and enhance their understanding of Chinese excellent traditional culture, we organized a trip to Chonglin Colored Stone Inlay Art Museum in Wenzhou for 12 international students on 11th October. There, they experienced the traditional skills and cultural charm of the intangible culture “Colored Stone Inlay”.

With the help of Mr. Miao Yichuan, a intangible cultural heritage inheritor, international students visited the raw material warehouse, production workshop and exhibit hall of the colored stone inlay base to learn about the historical origin of the colored stone inlay work and appreciate the arts and crafts. “Splendid Spring” “God blesses” “Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter”... The big pieces are magnificent, while the small pieces are exquisitely carved, eclectic and colorful, which have opened the eyes of international students.

Under the guidance of Mr. Miao, international students also made a colorful stone inlay work-pipa pendant. From cutting, inlaying to polishing, international students deeply felt the craftsmans’ spirit of striving for perfection. Chang'e, a student from Vietnam, said, “I am very happy to experience the intangible skills of colored stone inlaying and feel the charm of Chinese traditional culture!”

This trip not only allows international students to experience the beauty of colored stone inlay works, but also helps to further spread Wenzhou culture, enabling more people around the world to know more about China’s intangible cultural heritages.
