Wenzhou China & In Wenzhou Launched — CIE Made a Great Contribution

It is important for us to tell Wenzhou’s stories well, and to promote international communication creatively. On the afternoon of October 19th, the launch ceremony of the English version of the website “Beautiful Wenzhou”—Wenzhou China and the bilingual magazine In Wenzhou was successfully held at the Wenzhou Media Center(located at Qidu). There, a matrix of Wenzhou international communication covering newspapers, websites, apps, journals, WeChat official accounts and television channels was formally formed.

Ye Miao, Dean of CIE, attended and gave a speech at the launching ceremony as a representative of Wenzhou City International Communication Expert Think-Tank, as well as the head of the translation team of the bilingual magazine In Wenzhou.

The English website Wenzhou China is jointly built by the Publicity Department of the PCP Wenzhou Municipal Committee and China Daily. It is going to tell global readers about Wenzhou's breakthroughs and achievements in economy, culture and social development from multiple perspectives in seven columns, such as Media Center, Overseas Publicity.

In Wenzhou, the first municipal bilingual magazine in Zhejiang province, is co-sponsored by the Publicity Department of the PCP Wenzhou Municipal Committee, Wenzhou Municipal Information Office, Wenzhou Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, and the Wenzhou Daily Newspaper Group. The magazine is based on the local area of Wenzhou and also focuses on the world. It is characterized by reflecting the strong regional culture of Wenzhou and reporting overseas WenzhouRen and foreign people in Wenzhou. It tells the contemporary fashion life and economic development of Wenzhou, as well as its historical vicissitudes and social changes.

Mrs. Ye said that In Wenzhou is a good platform for us to share Wenzhou stories and a good window for foreigners to know Wenzhou. Last century, translators were focused on foreign stories, but now we try to translate Wenzhou and China to the outside world. Translators of In Wenzhou from the Center for Translation and Intercultural Communication Studies at Wenzhou University will take their responsibility, think of the hometown, try to make an integration of Chinese and foreign, and help to disseminate Wenzhou’s culture and stories abroad.

In addition, Wenzhou City International Communication Expert Think-Tank and Wenzhou City International Communication Correspondent Team were established in the same afternoon, and expert and correspondent representatives were honored with the certificate of appointment onsite. Eight international students from CIE, including Kevin Dube,  Kelvin Tatenda,  Abdallah Usama,  Catarina Chen, Kokori Ali Dauda, Ahmed Jama, Dennis Ikrokoto, and Eliezer Edwards were appointed as Wenzhou City International Communication Correspondent.
