On the morning of June 12, the 9th Wenzhou Dragon Boat Series and Campus Dragon Boat Carnival kicked off at Wenzhou University（WZU） with the theme of "Youth for Asian Games, Together to the Future".
Although the weather was not good on the day of the competition, it did not reduce the enthusiasm of the international students to participate in the competition. What’s more, the international student dragon boat team won the third prize of the youth group and also won the Sports Morality Award in the fierce competition. This is the second time for Ma Teng from Somalia to take part in such an event, he said, “I am very happy to sit on the dragon boat which is shaped like a dragon. While listening to the sound of drums, we are paddling and fighting side by side with our teammates, and cross the finish line with excitement.” Mobe from Lesotho said that although she was a substitute for this dragon boat race, she shouted and cheered for her own team members during the race. She said that the school dragon boat race allowed her to better understand and participate in the traditional Chinese culture, and gave a successful conclusion to her 4-year study at WZU.
It is reported that WZU International Student Dragon Boat Team was established in April 2021 under the guidance of the College of International Education(CIE), and consists of international students from Kenya, Zimbabwe, Somalia, Ethiopia, Mozambique and other countries. It is a dynamic, well-trained, international dragon boat team with unity and pioneering spirit, and also a team full of characteristics of WZU. Through hard training, international students not only improved their skills and sharpened their wills, but more importantly, the traditional cultural spirit of unity, perseverance and courage of Chinese dragon boats were incorporated into the training and competition of international students, which made them deeply aware of the essence of this traditional Chinese sport and inspired them to fight hard and go forward in the future competition.
