“Wenzhou Impression” Chinese Speech Contest for International Students


On the evening of 30th, December, 2020, Wenzhou Impression Chinese Speech Contest for International Students, which was sponsored by Wenzhou Culture Broadcasting and Tourism Bureau and jointly organized by College of International Education, Wenzhou University (CIE, WZU) and School of International Studies, Wenzhou Medical University(SIS, WMU), went smoothly.

The speech contest was divided into two rounds: preliminary and final. In total, the contest received 18 contestants from both universities. At 3:00 PM, 23rd December, the preliminary round was held in Room 201 in CIE, WZU. Contestants, online or on site, gave wonderful speeches showing their love and passion for China and Wenzhou city with various themes such as Stories of Studying in Wenzhou, Wenzhous Weather and Wenzhou Cuisine. Members of the judging panel were teacher Kan Wenwen and teacher Zhang Minlu from CIE,WZU, as well as teacher Liu Bojing, the director of Teaching and Research Office of Chinese as a Second Language, SIS,WMU.

In the end of the preliminary, according to contestants average grades, 14 contestants, including four online and 10 on site, were selected to compete in the final.

The final was held on the evening of 7:00 PM, 30th December. Deputy director Li Fangxi and division chief Chi Han from Wenzhou Culture Broadcasting and Tourism Bureau, dean Ye Miao and director Zhang Minlu from CIE,WZU, secretary and vice secretary of CPC CIE, WZU Committee Lin Aiju, and Fang Jianxiao, and vice dean Miao Liyi, director Liu Bojing and teacher Su Ye were all invited to the speech contest as judges.

After undergoing the preliminary contest, contestants were more confident and sophisticated in the final. Their fluent Chinese, elegant manners and interesting speech contents enabled audience present to enjoy the contest as a talent show.
