To Celebrate Dragon Boat Day in a Traditional Way

The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese festival that commemorates Qu Yuan, an ancient Chinese poet. On China, it takes place on the fifth day of the fifth month on the Chinese lunar calendar. In the afternoon of June 9, four days before Dragon Boat Day, the CIE organized overseas students who are interested in making Zongzi, Chinese Rice Dumpling at the Staff Canteen to celebrate the Dragon Boat Day in advance. In total, about 10 foreign students signed up for the event.
Before international students arrived at the canteen, staff from the Logistics Department of WZU had already prepared tables with reed leaves, candied dates, meats, and rice for when international students to come. Meanwhile, experienced “masters” were invited to teach the foreign students how to make a Zongzi. Leaders and teachers from the CIE were also there to help them. Though some international students had no clue about how to make a Zongzi, they were “experts” after several practices.
Student AJAYI-OLOWO PRECIOUS DAMILOLA from Nigeria said, “ In Africa, we also use reef leaves to make food, but today I have a totally different try.”
