Celebrating Chinese New Year of 2022 in Advance

As the year of 2022 approaches, the international students’ dorm has been getting into the holiday spirit. On January 28th , 2022 (December 26th of the lunar month, 2021), International College of Education (CIE), gathering international students, teachers and leaders together, was celebrating the new year of 2022 in advance.

Mr. Zhuang Xingzhong, Deputy Secretary of CPC Wenzhou University Committee, and leaders from Municipal Education Bureau, Ouhai Exit and Entry Administration Brigade, Chashan Town Police Station, Wenzhou Branch of Bank of China and relevant administrative departments of Wenzhou University visited the international students’ dorm, and took part in activities such as writing Chinese New Year couplets and making dumplings together with the international students, creating a happy new year atmosphere.

"Every time when the new year is coming, we would hold rich activities for international students, enabling them to experience the festive and peaceful atmosphere of Chinese Lunar New Year. And we hope to make them feel the warmth of Wenzhou University by offering those activities." said Song Zhanmei, Dean of CIE.

Ms. Zhang Minlu, teacher from CIE, introduced the traditional Chinese culture of writing and pasting Chinese spring couplets and teached international students to write the Chinese character “FU”(福) with Chinese traditional writing brush. Chinese character “Fu” means blessing and good fortune, carrying Chinese people’s best wishes for the new year. By writing it, international students have a better understanding of Chinese culture.

China enjoys numerous cuisines; however, dumplings is the dish that always be served when families and friends get together. Because we think what’s inside the dumplings are love and happiness. International students made dumplings in different shapes and sizes, and competed with each other to see whose dumplings are the most beautiful. They cooked and tasted the dumplings that they had just learned to make, wondering how delicious those dumplings are.

International student Trần Thị Ngọc Ánh from Vietnam said, “This is my third spring festival in China. Though I am missing my families back home, I feel at home here in Wenzhou University for teachers cares and loves. I am also grateful to Chinese government for providing free COVID-19 vaccines to us international students, making our study and lives in China at ease.”

International student Zhu Yilong from the Republic of Tajikistan said, “Chinese spring festival has a lot in common with our country's Gurban festival. We also prepare lots of food, and visit relatives and friends during Gurban festival. I could not return home this year, but together with teachers and classmates here my winter holiday is full of joy.”

At last, Mr. Zhuang and other leaders and teachers visited international students’ rooms and gave them new year’ greeting one by one.
