Oct. 29, 2025 – Seventy-seven Indonesia students from the Tsingshan Class at Wenzhou University explored local traditions through an immersive cultural workshop at the Wenzhou Student Practice School. During the event, the school was officially designated as Wenzhou University’s “China Studies Base for International Students,” strengthening ties in promoting cross-cultural education.

Guided by instructors, the students visited exhibits on Wenzhou’s history, couplet art, and local cuisine. At the Couplet Culture Museum, they discussed the poetic phrasing and symmetry of traditional couplets. In the Oucai Museum, they discovered the fresh, mild flavors that define Wenzhou dishes while learning about their cultural background.

The visit also featured interactive sessions on intangible cultural heritage skills such as boxwood carving, Ōusù clay art, and filigree enamel. Students tried their hands at carving, clay modeling, and wire-inlay work under the guidance of local artisans. “I didn’t expect a piece of wood could turn into something so beautiful. It helped me connect with Wenzhou in a new way,” shared an Indonesian participant.

The program is part of Wenzhou University’s “Study in WZU” initiative, which encourages international students to engage deeply with local culture. Future collaborations will continue to combine cultural observation and hands-on experience, offering more dynamic ways for global students to understand Wenzhou and China.
