Jan 5, 2026

December 31, 2025, College of International Education(CIE) hosted its International New Year Gala and the award ceremony for the Wenzhou International Friends Chinese Competition at the Yuying Auditorium, celebrating cultural exchange and student achievements.

The event was attended by WZU’s Vice President Wang Shun, city officials including Sui Huijie from the Wenzhou Foreign Affairs Office, and Zeng Chunling from the Wenzhou Cultural Center, as well as faculty, staff, and international students of CIE.

The gala opened with vibrant performances. Indonesian students presented a fusion dance blending Eastern and Western styles, followed by a heartfelt recitation, Wenzhou in My Eyes, and an inspiring chorus of Invisible Wings by the Qingshan Class.

A highlight was the "Shining International Stars" awards segment, recognizing students for excellence in arts, sports, community service, and courage. Documentary videos showcased international students' yearly activities and contributions. Notably, dorm supervisors and security guards presented the "Star of Social Work" awards, receiving warm applause for their dedicated service.

Vietnamese student Luo Wenda, a Zhejiang Provincial Government Scholarship recipient, shared, "Learning Chinese opened a window to understanding China for me."

The celebration continued with cross-cultural performances, including a fashion show merging Peking Opera elements with modern dress, traditional Indonesian dance, and popular song performances in multiple languages. The gala concluded with a joint sing-along of Tomorrow Will Be Better.

"The event made us feel at home," said Syrian student Hou Lien, one of the hosts. Nepalese participant Sam added, "Every rehearsal was a step toward bridging cultures."

CIE reaffirmed its commitment to fostering global dialogue and developing future contributors to international understanding.
