Building Supportive Spaces: Wenzhou University Enhances Mental Wellness for International Students

Jan 9, 2026

On January 6, a delegation from Wenzhou University’s Student Affairs Office visited the College of International Education(CIE) to observe and advise on the operations of its Mental Health and Counseling Center for International Students. Led by Director Jiang Haiyan and joined by mental health specialists Shen Yitong and Cheng Jialu, the visit focused on the station’s standardization and ongoing mental health support programs.

During the tour, the team examined the station’s layout, facilities, and daily operations, paying particular attention to document management practices—including the “one student, one file” record-keeping system. They also met with the CIE’s counseling staff to discuss current approaches to mental health education, student support mechanisms, and crisis intervention protocols.

The delegation further visited several dedicated student spaces such as the National Conditions Education Gallery, the campus café, and the tea room. These areas are designed to combine cultural engagement with emotional support, offering international students informal settings to connect, unwind, and build community.

Director Jiang commended the college's committed work in student mental health and emphasized the importance of continuing to tailor services to the unique psychological and cultural needs of international students. She highlighted the value of maintaining dynamic and well-utilized student records while expanding the reach and professionalism of counseling services. Ms. Shen and Ms. Cheng provided additional recommendations regarding documentation and activity planning.

The visit served both as a constructive review of current programs and as a planning session for enhancing the specialty and effectiveness of mental health services for international students. Moving forward, the college aims to further develop culturally responsive support models, ensuring all students receive thoughtful, comprehensive care.
