WZU International Students Explore Yueqing's Electrical Industry

Sep 24, 2026

The College of International Education organized an industry study tour to Yueqing on September 18, giving international students a firsthand look at Wenzhou's private economy and smart manufacturing. Led by Ding Qiang, deputy secretary of the college's Party branch, the delegation brought together student representatives from more than ten countries, including Bangladesh, Turkmenistan, Cameroon, Morocco, Yemen, Tanzania, Malawi, Kenya, Georgia, Somalia, South Africa, Azerbaijan, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria.

The group first visited the 4th China Electrical Capital Power Industry and New Energy Exhibition, where smart electrical equipment, new power system technologies, and new energy products showcased the city's industrial strength and innovation. Students stopped at key booths, listened to industry briefings, and engaged in discussions on the sector's transformation and global reach.

In the afternoon, the delegation toured People Electric Appliance Group, a leading Chinese enterprise. At its exhibition hall, students learned about the company's history, core technologies, global strategy, and smart manufacturing lines, gaining insight into how Wenzhou firms pursue innovation and international expansion.

A symposium followed. Ding introduced the college's talent cultivation system and its efforts to support local products going global through enterprise study tours, overseas influencer training, and the Silk Road Cultural Festival. He encouraged outstanding international students to stay in Wenzhou for employment or entrepreneurship after graduation.

Zhu Youfa, chairman of the Yueqing Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, welcomed students to settle in Yueqing and serve as people-to-people ambassadors for Sino-foreign economic and cultural exchanges. A company representative expressed hope for deeper cooperation in international talent cultivation, industry-academia integration, and overseas market development.

Students said the tour offered a vivid, in-depth look at Wenzhou's electrical industry and China's manufacturing innovation. Many plan to leverage their cross-cultural strengths to build bridges between their home countries and Yueqing and help Wenzhou products reach overseas markets.

The participants came from fields including mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, and international economics and trade. The tour is part of the university's efforts to promote "Knowing China, Befriending China, and Loving China" education and to build a platform for university-enterprise collaboration and cross-cultural industrial exchange.
